Contractors' All-Risk

Comprehensive cover for construction projects, protecting works in progress, materials, plant, and third-party liability.

What it does

Complete construction coverage

CAR covers the works and materials on site from groundwork to handover, protecting against accidental damage, theft, fire, flood, and third-party liability arising from the construction process.

Who it is for

Built for contractors and owners

Building owners undertaking construction, extension or major renovation, and the contractors running the works, should both hold CAR cover. The policy can be held by either party, or jointly.

Why it matters

Deliver projects safely

Material damage, equipment theft, or a third-party injury can halt a project and trigger large claims. CAR cover absorbs those costs and keeps the project moving to completion.

Legal requirement

Widely required in contracts

Most formal construction contracts in Lagos require CAR cover as a condition precedent. LAGBIS mandates it for all major works. Priced on contract value plus declared asset values.

Good to know

Answers to common questions about your coverage.

CAR covers physical damage to the works and materials during construction, plus third-party liability. Builders Liability is a more limited product focused only on third-party claims. CAR is the comprehensive option.

The standard policy covers the construction period up to practical completion. A maintenance period endorsement can be added for the defects liability period; ask at the quote stage.

Yes. A project owner or contractor running more than one site can hold a single annual CAR policy. The premium is calculated from the aggregate contract value.

You will need the contract value, project address, start and end dates, a description of the works, and the declared value of plant and machinery on site. A copy of the main contract is required for large projects.
